From MTV Networks to High Point Market panelist, Rhobin DelaCruz’s path to interior design wasn't exactly traditional—but it was destined. After starting out in corporate advertising and real estate, a few pivotal conversations and an eye for standout style helped him tap into his true calling: creating bold, personality-driven spaces that break the mold. In this interview, Rhobin shares how he built Rhobin DelaCruz Designs, the career milestones that made him stop and say “is this real life?”, and the creative rituals that keep him inspired—and unstoppable.

Q: You started in corporate advertising and real estate. What inspired you to flip the switch and launch your own design firm?

A: My last corporate role was at MTV Networks - a job I actually dreamed about back in college. But a few years in, I knew it wasn't my forever. And my supportive and amazing bosses agreed. They basically said to me, "You should not be here with us. You need to be doing something creative because you are great at it."

That same week, I told a friend that story, and she said, "Have you ever thought about interior design? Your apartment is amazing."

And voila! My design journey and entrepreneurship begins.

Q: You've worked with iconic brands like GQ, TED, and MTV. What's been a true "pinch me" moment in your career?

A: There have definitely been a few surreal moments. Working with clients like GQ, TED, and MTV was a huge moment for RDD, but one of the biggest "pinch me" milestones that hit hard, this past October at High Point Market. It marked my one year anniversary and this time; I was back as a panelist. Not one, but two panels. I even hosted an Instagram takeover on Market's IG account. And then to top it off, I found myself on the stage dancing with Bell, Biv, Devoe! DEAD.

Did I mention LuAnn Nigara was one of my panel moderators? Now THAT, was a pinch me moment.

Q: What's your current obsession--color, texture, pattern, or piece?

A: Bold, saturated greens have me in a chokehold right now. And honestly? I still can't quit teal. THere's something about that green-teal family that feels gorunding and daring all at once.

Pattern-wise, I've been gravitating toward oversized, unexpected prints like florals with attitude, abstract geometrics, and a good vintage-inspired stripe. And if I had to pick one texture, boucle is seriously etched in my mind. It's so soft, sculptural, and inviting to me. Makes me want to touch anything made out of boucle.

Q: How would you describe the signature "Rhobin DelaCruz" touch in your work?

A: Bold individuality, layered with intention. That's the core of it.

My process is to really get to know my clients on a personal level. I can challenge and push their design boundaries because we've built trust. They know my style. That's why they hired me. That said, they don't necessarily know how to get there and or imagine the possibilities for themselves. That's my job to figure it out for them. I'm not the type of designer who suggests a pretty choice just because it's pretty. I need to understand clients' wants, habits, and where they see themselves in the future.

I don't shy away from color, pattern, or mixing styles...I run towards them. But there's always a strategy behind the boldness. Every space I design has a strong point of view. It's fearless, enver chaotic. It's where badassery meets thoughtful design.

Q: Do you have any personal rituals or habits that fuel your creativity?

A: Absolutely. Creativity doesn't just show up for me...I have to make space for it.

Most mornings, I carve out a quiet moment for myself. Coffee in hand. No emails, no noise. Just letting my mind drift. It's the best way to clear the clutter before the chaos.

And I always make a point to step away from the screen. Whether it's a walk, people-watching, or just sitting still and observing; it's those little, ordinary moments that spark my best ideas.
